PESCO to be made consumer-friendly company

The Board of Directors (BoD) directed to make Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) a consumer friendly company by addressing the complaints of consumers and building up image of the company. The directives were issued in the 58th meeting of the BoD held at WAPDA House, Peshawar with chairman, Hassamuddin Khan Bangash in the chair.
Those who attended the meeting were Chief Executive PESCO, Mohammad Wali, Sardar Mohammad Tariq, Professor Syed Imtiaz Hussein Gilani, Professor Dr Mohammad Qasim Jan, Mohammad Raziuddin, Nauman Wazir, Syed Ishfaq Hussein, Haji Mohammad Sharif, Dr Asmat Nawaz, Deputy General Manager, Finance, Anwar-ulHaq Yusufzai and Director Public Relations Shaukat Afzal. The board directed to address the complaints of repair of transformers on top priority basis and particularly redress complaints regarding over-billing. The board also approved an amount of Rs 1.139 billion for the purchase of new distribution transformers to bring improvement in power supply and to resolve low voltage and the problems of overloading.
The board was appraised that there was no shortage of new meters and have already been provided to those who had deposited Demand Notices. It was told that 50,000 new connections have been provided and meters will be provided shortly for further new connections. Professor Syed Imtiaz Hussein Gilani, a member of the board said that loadshedding is a national issue but the students of Peshawar's universities are suffering a lot and called for measures to resolve the problem of unscheduled loadshedding.
Chief Executive, PESCO Mohammad Wali assured that all out efforts would be made to exempt Peshawar university from unscheduled loadshedding. The board expressed satisfaction over recent reduction in loadshedding and directed to take up the case with RCC that there should be no unscheduled loadshedding in entire province. PESCO, he said should itself schedule the loadshedding according to the given quota for loadshedding. The board was directed to ensure reduction in line losses and increase in the recovery to increase the revenue and turned PESCO into a profitable entity.
The Board of Directors also recommended the establishment of a Centre of Energy Excellence in University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar. Chief Executive, PESCO Mohammad Wali updated the directors about the operation cleanup against power defaulters. He assured that decrease in line losses and increase in recovery are the main targets of the campaign, saying the company has taken various steps for smooth and interruption free supply of electricity.
He said that all out efforts are being made to facilitate the customers at their doorsteps. He said that field staff has been directed to raise the image of company as Customer Friendly and a number of other steps in this regard are on the cards. The board appreciated the efforts of the company and expressed the hope that the employees would work with the same zeal and spirit for the betterment of the company for turning into a profitable company.
