The Lahore High Court here Tuesday sought assistance of a deputy attorney general and additional advocate general in a habeas corpus petition on May 18 for knowing whereabouts of alleged missing families of Faizan and Faheem, who were killed by Raymond Davis.
A bar member Malik Munsif Awan stated that these families went missing since they pardoned Raymond on March 16, 2011 after accepting blood money. The court questioning the maintainability of the petition asked that whether the petitioner was a relative of the alleged missing family.
At this counsel for petitioner, Azhar Siddique replied that under article 199 of the constitution any individual could file habeas corpus petition. The counsels further said that both federal and provincial governments had failed to recover the missing families and were intentionally delaying the court proceedings.
The court observed that the alleged missing families might have gone abroad, however, the counsel argued that even then the government was constitutionally bound to protect them. The petitioner submitted that according to the media, the families had a huge amount of Rs 200 million with them and apprehended that somebody had kidnapped them and kept them in illegal detention. He said there were also apprehensions that they were forced to accept blood money for the release of Davis.
