President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday emphasised the need to promote greater interaction and relations between the parliaments of Pakistan and Kuwait through exchanges of parliamentary delegations. The President was talking to Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait Jassem Mohammad Al-Khorafi here at Bayan Palace.
He discussed matters of mutual interest, with particular reference to parliamentary exchanges between the two countries.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, Secretary General to the President M Salman Faruqui, Spokesman to the President Farhatullah Babar and Pakistan's Ambassador to Kuwait Iftikhar Aziz were also present in the meeting.
President briefed the Kuwaiti Speaker about the strong democratic and parliamentary system in Pakistan as well as the Constitutional reforms taken by the Pakistan People's Party led government to further strengthen democratic institutions.
President Zardari told the Speaker that the Pakistani Constitution has been purged of the extraordinary Presidential powers, added by the dictators in the past, to strengthen democracy.
Speaker of Kuwait Jassem Mohammad Al-Khorafi was appreciative of the strong democratic system in Pakistan as well as free media and independent judiciary. He said having free media and independent judiciary were prerequisites to ensure socio-economic justice in any country and society.
He also endorsed the President's views on greater interaction between the parliamentarians of both the countries through exchange of delegations.
