Much awaited Women Sports Gala has started after restoration of normalcy in militancy ravaged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The three-day Sports Gala has been organised under auspices of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with provincial department of Sports.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein was chief guest on the occasion, while MPA Shagufta Malik, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the games, Provincial Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah, Director General Khan Zeb Khan, Associate Secretary POA Syed Azhar Ali Shah, Secretary KP Olympic Association Zulfiqar Butt were present on the occasion.
The sports activities had gained momentum following organising the mega sports event "31st National Games under the auspices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last year. The provincial government had taken measures for revival of womenfolk' games, said the Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein, while speaking at inaugural ceremony of Peshawar district Women Indigenous Games here at Qayyum Sports Complex on Friday.
He said that the government had devised a comprehensive plan to revive women folk games in the province, saying that the games have been ignored in modern era. About 12 female teams would be participated in the Women Sports Gala, in which six traditional games were included Mirgati (play with a bouncy ball and pebbles) chindro (puzzle box), Koko (rounder), Chukla Chapati and Pento Gol Gram and Racy Tup (skipping).
