US raid

Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (PESA) stands firmly with the people of Pakistan who feel deeply angered, aggrieved, and humiliated at failure of our civil and military leadership in the face of the flagrant violation of our sovereignty by the US in carrying out a military operation inside our country.
Notwithstanding the laudable efforts by our nation to safeguard and secure our strategic assets, PESA feels that this operation has opened the likelihood of further similar actions against our vital interests. The PESA recognises that Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda, and their associated organisations operating on Pakistan soil, causing heavy loss of innocent lives in Pakistan and needed to be brought to justice. This should have been done by the Pakistani state and not through violation of our national honour and prestige by foreign forces.
The relevance of Pak-US alliance in the war on terror, the US must recognise that violations of Pakistani sovereignty in no way serve our common objective because of the hatred such actions create against the US and Pakistani administration.
This operation has not only caused embarrassment for our government and the military within Pakistan, comments and questions being asked by the world media and eminent leaders are no less than humiliating. Our people deserve, and must be given explanations about the role and extent of involvement of Pakistan in the entire episode, and the objectives sought to be achieved from it.
We are faced with great threat to our national integrity. There is an urgent need to have national unity, consensus and correctly defined nationhood, and a new social contract firmly rooted in the social and economic aspirations of our people, discarding all notions and ideologies that run counter to the historical forward march of humanity.
Notwithstanding the most honourable and unforgettable sacrifices given by our civilians and soldiers in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, PESA feels that success in these operations is not assured till the concept and strategy for these operations have been derived out of a well-deliberated and legislated National Security Strategy that defines the new social contract.
To preclude possibility of such actions in the future, and to secure the future of the people of Pakistan, PESA demands that civil and military leadership must come clean and reveal the entire truth about the facts and objectives surrounding the bin Laden operation, to the people of Pakistan.
The stated primary objective of the US/Nato invasion of Afghanistan was to capture Osama bin Laden. Now all efforts must be made to stop the war and resolve the outstanding issues through dialogue and peaceful means, preferably in the presence of a UN peace force drawn from non-regional Muslim countries.
A diplomatic offensive be launched to explain and clarify Pakistan's position in world capitals. Persons of experience in diplomacy and respect in major capitals be entrusted with this task. Failure to fulfil constitutional mandates, whether civil or military, must be investigated and result in removal from office of functionaries especially from the highest levels.
The government must come out with a comprehensive National Security Strategy, and Policies derived there from for all sectors of governance, to protect the interests of the people and state. The PESA offers its researched and already formulated Suggested National Strategy Paper, to the civil and military leadership to help define our national values and purpose through comprehensive National Security Strategy/Policies ie a new Social Contract to secure the future of the citizens and state of Pakistan.
