The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue on Friday highly appreciated the efforts made by Salman Siddique, Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and his team for their efforts to bring revolutionary changes in the field of revenue collection to generate maximum revenue for the country.
The Committee met here with Fauzia Wahab in the chair to discuss the budgetary process for 2011-12 budget. The Committee appreciated the idea for including National Tax Number under the head of national identity card numbers to involve maximum tax payable people in the network to strengthen the tax collection mechanism.
The management of FBR was directed to take stringent measures to overcome the flaws of the tax collection system in order to ensure the proper compliance of their policies. The Committee also recommended that FBR management may pursue the pending court cases effectively to get huge amount of taxes which is stuck up due to absence of adjudication.
Earlier, Salman apprised the Committee about targets set by the government and efforts made by them to achieve the targets. He informed the committee that the tax collection target for the year 2010-11 is Rs 1588 billion. The Committee members who participated in the meeting included Nafisa Shah, Nighat Perveen, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Jamil, Khalida Masoor, Kashmala Tariq, Riaz Fatyana, Arif Aziz Sheikh, Abdul Rashid Godil, Bushra Gohar and Munir Khan Orakzai.
