Sindh High Court on Thursday directed Deputy Attorney General to submit report on efforts being taken by government for welfare of families of all missing persons. A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, was hearing petition, which sought direction from the government to extend financial assistance to relatives, children of missing persons.
Petitioner, Advocate Nisar A Mujahid, Chairman Human Rights & Civil Liberties Society of Pakistan submitted after 9/11 incident in United States large number of al Qaeda suspects were picked up by US authorities in league with Pakistani government. He stated when their detention matters were taken up neither detainees were produced before any court nor their whereabouts were disclosed to their natives.
Sindh High Court had earlier directed the federal government while dealing with missing persons cases to take all necessary steps to protect interest, welfare of citizens in accordance with law. He contended that same was not implemented by state functionaries and asked government to immediately take steps to help families, children of all missing persons and submit a plan in their respective division.
