In the past shareholders of public limited companies had been receiving copies of quarterly/annual accounts and other statutory notices through mail. Since the use of website for the purpose, companies are publishing an announcement in the newspapers about placement of quarterly/annual accounts on website or AGM/EGM notices.
Presently a good number of shareholders are missing accounts statements and other statutory notices due to discontinuation of mailing system by majority of the companies. To improve the system of providing necessary information to shareholders in time, I would like to propose that all the public limited companies may also use SMS or email alert service, as in use of many commercial banks and CDC, to convey the message of placement of accounts on website and statutory notices be emailed to all shareholders.
Efforts may be initiated by all public limited companies to obtain email addresses or mobile phone numbers from all shareholders. Adoption of this system will certainly eliminate number of complaints voiced during AGM/EGM. I request all the authorities monitoring the shareholders' rights and all public limited companies to consider the proposal actively to facilitate the shareholders.
