The Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) in collaboration with the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) organised a one day science and technology, exhibition here at Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) laboratories complex Peshawar on Thursday.
Provincial Minister for Science & Information Technology, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mohammad Ayub Khan was chief guest of inaugural ceremony. Beside, the provincial minister other high profile dignitaries of MoST and its attached organisations and representatives of the trade and industry attended this memorable event with greater zeal.
Speaking on the occasion the provincial minister lauded the remarkable efforts of the organisers of the exhibition and stressed upon scientists to work with renewed vigour and vitality in undertaking research in R & D organisations on modern scientific lines, which may bring tangible results and take the nation towards self-sufficiency in science and technology.
He attached great importance to exploit indigenous resources in the field of science and technology to earn foreign exchange for the country. He was of the firm opinion that robust and lasting liaison between the public and private sector is the prime need of the day to transfer the benefits of the research and development to grassroots level in the country.
Shahryar Khan, JTA, MoST in his welcome addressed, dilated on the vitality and primacy of R & D in science & technology organisations, which play pivotal role in the industrial development of a country. He said that the establishment of commercial sections in various units of PCSIR with generous support of MoST will bring valuable dividends in the shape of quick accessibility of R & D organisations to the industrial community.
In this regard, he made special mention of PCSIR Laboratories Complex Peshawar wherein the establishment of commercialisation section has enabled this unit to transfer technology of 14 processes to the entrepreneurs during the last one and half year. Haji Mohammad Javed, Chairman, Skill Development Council (SDC) and Mohammad Akbar Khan, Vice president FPCCI in their respective speeches highlighted the illustrious role of scientific organisations, which work as backbone in the industrial sector of any country. They cited the examples of China, Japan, Singapore, America and other advanced countries, which have made phenomenal progress in science and technology and established industrial hegemony over the world.
Engr. Liaqat Ali, Director General Peshawar Laboratories Complex (PLC) thanked the chief guest and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion and felicitated the organisers of the exhibition for their meritorious services in making it a successful event. He specially thanked Irfan Nadeem, Federal Secretary, MoST for taking his fruitful initiative and giving directives to organise such types of exhibitions in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Quetta on the same lines. Later, the Minister formally inaugurated the exhibition and visited different stalls, while taking keen interest in the products and scientific equipment developed by PCSIR and other scientific organisations.
