Barclays Corporate is fast tracking the development of its global trade finance offering with the appointment of new Head of Trade and Working Capital, Tan Kah Chye. Kah Chye joins from Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore, where for the past six years he has held the position of Global Head of Trade Finance where he drove a period of rapid and successful expansion of the bank's trade function.
More recently Kah Chye took responsibility for the bank's global cash management operation in addition to his trade finance role. With a wealth of experience in senior trade finance roles in both Asia and Europe, Kah Chye will focus on increasing the depth and reach of Barclays Corporate's trade proposition in key EMEA markets as well as developing the bank's trade business across Asia and through Barclays growing presence in the US.
Previously Kah Chye has held senior trade finance positions with Deutsche Bank, JPM Chase and Citibank. The appointment comes at a time when Barclays Corporate is focused on trade finance as one of its key areas for revenue growth, taking advantage of growth in trade flows throughout the developing world, particularly through the bank's strong local network across Africa.
Commenting on his appointment, Tan Kah Chye, Head of Trade and Working Capital, Barclays Corporate, said: "It is my great honour to join Barclays, an institution that has excelled in many areas of banking. I am confident that with Barclays geographical networks, team of trade professionals and client base that the next journey of the bank's trade finance development will be an exciting one, particularly as the team exploits synergies between trade finance and its full suite of working capital solutions."
John Kelting, Head of Product, Barclays Corporate, commented: "As one of the foremost trade finance specialists in banking today, we are delighted Kah Chye has agreed to lead our trade business in the next phase of its development. The wealth of experience he brings to the team will be key to achieving our long term growth ambitions."-PR
