MNA Kishwar Zehra has said that free and fair elections were not possible without an end to the culture of feudalism in the country. Speaking at a roundtable discussion organised by Pildat here on Wednesday, she said that 98 percent of the population lived in abject poverty and were at the mercy of the influential feudal lords.
"Those living poor life and dependent on the feudal masters cannot decide about their fate as they were already burdened with the curse of loans etc," she pointed out. She maintained that the recent floods also exposed the level of poverty in the country. The MNA said that there was a need that the government gave incentives to small farmers to get rid of the culture of slavery.
She asked the civil society to visit villages and observe the living conditions of the poor people there. She further said that the civil society should play its role to help the poor to get freedom from the feudal. Zehra said that there was a great need to empower people economically for stabilising democracy in the country. "We should eliminate the discrimination between the elite class and the class which consists of 98 percent poor to bring revolution in the country," she was of the view.-PR
