The new Ambassador of Japan, Hiroshi OE, took charge of the embassy on Wednesday. He replaces Chihiro Atsumi, who has gone to Ireland to take charge as ambassador there. Hiroshi has rich experience regarding international affairs as he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April 1979 and served as first secretary in the Embassy of Japan in South Korea in April 1989.
Then in October 1991 he joined as Principal Deputy Director, Status of US Forces Agreement Division, Japan-US Security Treaty Division. Hiroshi was appointed Principal Deputy Director, China and Mongolia Division, Asian Affairs Bureau in July 1993. Again in June 1994 he worked as Senior Assistant for Treaties, International Conventions Division and International Legal Affairs Bureau.
In December 1994 he served as Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in USA. Joined as Director, United Nations Policy Division, Foreign Policy Bureau January 1998. The other assignment includes Director, Treaties Division, International Legal Affairs Bureau, Minister, Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Professor, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, The University of Tokyo, Deputy Director-General for Global Issues, Director-General for International Affairs, Ministry of Defence.
Japan and Pakistan have steadily evolved bilateral relations since 1952, when the two countries established diplomatic relations. During the nearly six decades, the two countries exchanged a number of delegations, including leaders' and ministerial level visits. Recently, Japan's Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada visited Pakistan in October, 2009, Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Makiko Kikuta visited Pakistan in November, 2010, and Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari visited Japan in February, 2011.
