A division bench of the Lahore High Court here on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the petition and applications against appointment of Director General National Accountability Bureau (Punjab) Rana Zahid Mehmood till May 9. The bench hearing the petition and applications filed by Shah Faisal Farooq through counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique.
Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Ashraf Khan appeared before the court and requested the court to provide copies of the CM applications as well as allow time to file reply in the matter. However, the petitioner counsel opposed the request contending that the plea was pending for the last two months, but the government wanted to retain Rana Zahid as DG, NAB illegally so it avoided to file the reply to allow the DG to complete his tenure.
He contended that no one could work after expiry of his contract till it was extended but the DG, NAB was illegally occupying the office after expiry of his contract. The bench, after hearing arguments, adjourned the matter till May 9. The petitioner submitted that Rana Zahid Mehmood was a close relative of Rana Qaiser Nazir, accused in the Canal Motors case, being investigated by NAB. He alleged that Rana Zahid Mehmood exercised his influence in the matter and removed investigation officer Rana Waqas Ahmad who held investigation on merit and declared Rana Qaiser Nazar and others guilty.
