Taiwan stocks ended flat on Tuesday, as a bounce in tech plays ahead of earnings announcements this week offset a retreat in banking shares after little progress was made in a meeting of regulators from Taiwan and China. The main TAIEX index closed down 2.61 points at 8,948.14, after opening down 0.63 percent.
Electronics shares rose 0.57 percent, with Compal Electronics Inc up 1.47 percent ahead of its first-quarter earnings report later on Tuesday. The financials sub-index fell 1.93 percent, with Cathay Financial Holding Co Ltd down 2.6 percent.
