General Kayani's Balochistan package termed 'insufficient'

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Sindh chapter on Monday termed General Kayani's Balochistan relief package as "insufficient and incomplete" which they said cannot redress the long-standing problems of the province. "It is merely an announcement for the people of Balochistan as it continued to be announced for the last three decades," said Senator JUI-F, Dr Ismail Buledi at a press conference at Karachi Press Club. He added that such promises could not satisfy the province's deprived populace.
JUI-F local leader Qari Sher Afzal Khan criticised the PPP-led central government for being unable to get the US drone strikes stopped, killing thousands of innocent people in Fata since President Zardari and his men had assumed governance in the country.
"Under Musharraf regime no such drone strikes had taken place in Fata and no patriotic tribesmen were killed openly," he said, adding that Pakistan army and ISI are also seeing the killings by the US drones silently."
The senator warned that his party after coming to power would make all those responsible for the killings accountable. He said Karachi violence was a conspiracy to destroy the city's peace and criticised the government for its failure to restore normalcy and clamp down on target killers.
Buledi said target killings are aimed at removing the political opponents and provincial and federal governments are responsible for this. He alleged that the government was interested only in prolonging its rule and protecting interests. "The continued target killings have claimed hundreds of innocent lives in the city yet the government has no interest in clamping down on the terrorists," he said, adding that his party would soon chalk out a programme and stage a sit-in in Karachi.
He demanded of the Chief Justice Sindh, administration and intelligence agencies to play their role in restoring peace in Karachi. He said the government should make Gwadar seaport fully functional and give priority to the province's trade and business, besides addressing poverty, illiteracy and backwardness.
