LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday said that in collaboration with Pakistan Bar Council, all aspects of Lawyers' rampage at Judicial Complex Multan would be reviewed and action would be taken as per law in this regard.

Addressing a seminar at Punjab Judicial Academy (PJA) regarding district legal empowerment committees here, he said, "Support of professional lawyers is our asset and we are committed for provision of justice to the masses. We are committed for development in the justice system but some elements wanted to disturb the atmosphere."

He said that non-serious elements were causing harm to the courts where they earned their livelihood.

He said that free legal aid committees existed in the system since long but their results were not visible. He said that with cooperation of European Union, the committees were formed on modern lines.

He said that Justice Ali Baqar Najfi had been appointed in charge of the project as he had visited various countries and reviewed free legal aid projects there.

He said that the committees had been constituted in 36 districts across the Punjab after pilot project in Lahore.

He asked the government to increase the project funding so that maximum number of needy litigants could avail the facility.

He asked media to raise awareness among the masses and the prisoners about the project.

Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Ahsan Bhoon expressed grief over Multan incident and condemned the incident. He requested the Chief Justice to take all stakeholders on board and hold complete inquiry into the incident and action should be taken against the responsible.
