Iran expressed its pessimism about the future of gas pipeline project. In an interview with Aaj News, the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, Mash Allah Shakri, said the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project was scheduled to be completed by 2013. But now the future of the $7 billion project looks bleak due to lack of interest on the part of Islamabad, he said.
He said that Iran has completed its commitment towards its share of the construction of the pipeline, measuring about one thousand kilometre in two years, but the reliance of the Pakistani government on the foreign companies to complete the project was jeopardising the future of the project.
Referring to the ongoing power crisis in Pakistan, the Iranian Ambassador said that if Pakistan completed its part of the project's commitment, Iran would ensure gas supply through this project. When asked that Iran's foreign minister after signing the deal of project had stated that India's inclusion in the project was of high probability, Shakri said the project was completely bilateral and the inclusion of India was not possible.
