The Australian dollar soared to a fresh 29-year summit and the kiwi to a three-year peak against a broadly battered US currency on Thursday, as a voracious appetite for risk fuelled a raging rally in commodities and stocks. It scaled a session summit of $1.0772 and was last traded at $1.0750, well up from $1.0693 in New York.
Against the yen, the Aussie recouped losses that had seen the currency below 86 yen earlier in the week. Across the Tasman sea, the New Zealand dollar also soared to a three-year peak of $0.8017 before steadying just below $0.8000, ahead of strong resistance at $0.8034 and then $0.8068.
