Capital Development Authority (CDA) took physical possession of a 54-acre land in the Northern Strip of E-11 sector, after Supreme Court struck down a joint venture agreement of CDA with Multi-Professional Co-operative Housing Society (MPCHS). The decision was made in a meeting of the CDA board held here on Monday, presided over by Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi in which the board decided to formulate strategy for development of the land.
Both commercial and residential plots would be developed in the northern strip of E-11, said a spokesman of CDA while talking to Business Recorder. He said the board also decided that all joint venture projects under consideration of the authority would be reviewed in the light of Supreme Court's judgement.
During the special meeting of CDA Board, the chairman was informed by Director General (Planning) that possession has already been taken over by the enforcement staff of CDA. After development work completes, both commercial and residential plots would be auctioned in a transparent manner, which would help the civic body earn a significant amount.
Chairman CDA directed to establish picket/check-post to ensure safety of already developed infrastructure and streetlights etc at the Northern Strip. He also directed relevant officers to ensure implementation of Supreme Court decision in letter and spirit.
It is pertinent to note that the apex court had taken suo motu notice on media reports regarding the 54-acre land scam and declared joint venture of the CDA and MPCHS in federal capital Islamabad's Sector E-11 null and void on April 15. The court ordered board of CDA to complete the project. The judgement was reserved by the two-member bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.
