Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) and Young Doctor Association (YDA) of federal capital have once again joined hands against the government discriminatory proposed Health Professional Career Structure Policy (HPCSP). A summary has been sent to the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani seeking a discriminatory grade and pay-scale for the Dental Surgeon.
According to the proposed summary, Dental Surgeon will be inducted in the pay scale 17 against MBBS in grade-18. In this regard a meeting was held on Saturday between PDA and YDA Islamabad in the federal services hospital Polyclinic. All concerns of the Dental faculty regarding the proposed Health Professional Carrier Structure were discussed.
Vice President PDA Dr Khursheed, Professor Dr Zahoor from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Dr Mohammad Ajmal President YDA Polyclinic represented their respective organisations. A resolution was passed unanimously that across the world, Dental Surgeon and MBBS doctors are treated on equal basis so the discriminated proposed policy is unacceptable and its implementation will be strongly opposed by the doctors' community.
In the meeting PDA has announced its unconditional and full support for YDA cause and is ready to work with YDA leadership to protect doctors' community rights and respect. Dr Ajmal said that YDA would not accept any such discrimination among the doctors' community at any cost.
A meeting was held between the Secretary Health and YDA yesterday (Thursday) where the Ministry was apprised of their concerns about the proposed policy. He said that secretary has assured YDA of her full support in this regard. The meeting was attended by heads of Dental Institutes along with senior faculty members from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad and dental colleges of public and private sector.
