Top scientist, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has said that former Prime Minister, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed laid the foundation of the nuclear programme of Pakistan and made the country an atomic power. He expressed these views while inaugurating newly constructed Ehsan Hall in District Public School and College here on Saturday. Elite of the town including journalists, lawyers and educationists were present.
Chaudhry Akram Ehsan and Chaudhry Aslam Ehsan had donated Rs 35 million to the construction of Ehsan Hall, which was named after their late father. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Qadeer said he had come to Pakistan from Holland and met the then PM ZA Bhutto and floated the idea of atomic power, which he accepted and tasked him with starting the noble cause to make the country an atomic power. Now, with the blessing of Allah Almighty Pakistan is an atomic power and included in seven atomic powers of the world, he added.
He urged the students to get education according to the need of the hour to play their role in the progress and prosperity of the country. Earlier, when Dr Qadeer arrived at the town he was accorded a warm welcome. The district police had made tight security on the occasion. Ghulam Muhammad Malik, chairman Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust Rawalpindi, Muhammad Usman, chairman Advisory Council Bahria, Principal DPS Dr Parveen Malik and DCO Okara Babar Shafi also addressed the ceremony.
