Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Pida) has launched a capacity-building programme for the newly constituted 69 Farmer Organisations (FOs) in Area Water Board of Bahawalnagar Canal Circle. The training programme will continue for eight months, said General Manager Pida, Syed Zahid Ali in a statement here Friday.
Giving a break-up of the schedule, he said that FOs' General Body training in Tehsil Chistian will be held from 31 March to April 8, while Management Committee members' training will be held from April 18 to May 17 in the same Tehsil. Likewise, training will also be held in Tehsil Bahawalnagar from March 28 to April 17 and further from May 23 to June 17 for Management Committees and from June 20 to July 5 for General Body members.
He said that Tehsil Minchanabad FOs will be provided training from June 21 to July 5. Management Committee members of Haroonabad FOs will receive training from July 11 to July 22 while training arrangements for Tehsil Haroonabad have been made for July 28 to September 23, Management Committee members of Tehsil Haroonabad will receive training from September 26 to October 4, and training of General Body members of Tehsil Fort Abbas will be carried out from October 6 to October 18.
GM Pida said that concerned staff has already been directed to inform participants of the programme well in time to ensure maximum attendance. The entire process will be directly monitored by the chief executive of Area Water Board, he added. Pida training is aimed at reducing non-developmental expenditures, help FOs improve efficiency besides ensuring availability of water at the tail ends. FO members will be given hands-on training about the technical, financial and revenue aspects of canals' management, he concluded.
