World Cup matches broadcast: Pemra carries out raids on cable networks

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), in pursuance of orders of Supreme Court with regard to the broadcasting rights of ICC Cricket World Cup Matches 2011, raided various cable distribution networks across the country, which were allegedly defying orders of the Court as well as Pemra.
Pemra had received a list of nearly 100 cable TV operators across the country from the Legal Council of Geo Super that were accused of running satellite TV channels broadcasting World Cup matches. The Legal Council had also informed the authority of various cable TV distribution networks involved in the buffering and shuffling of position of Geo Super in disregard to the orders of apex court and Pemra, communicated from time to time.
Taking cognisance of the violations, Pemra had already served three-day warning notices to all such cable TV operators allegedly involved in the activities. The field staff also continued surprise checks. Finally, Pemra enforcement teams launched a crackdown and seized systems of about 78 cable TV network operators across the country. Pemra is committed to uphold rule of law and respect to the orders of the courts and determined to implement every order in letter and spirit.-PR
