Secretary Commerce, Zafar Mahmood has given go-ahead signal to the chief of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Tariq Iqbal Puri to take the initiative of establishing training institute for the textile sector. This was decided during a meeting with the prominent exporters of textile sector to discuss the action plan for enhancing exports of the value added textile sector.
During the meeting, most of the industrialists agreed that the value added sector in Pakistan is much below the desired level, and the reasons for this were inefficiency of workers and if compared with the region, high energy cost, load shedding, law & order situation, and infrastructure and logistics issues.
The secretary commerce agreed with the findings of the participants and instructed to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of chief executive TDAP to take initiative for establishing a training institute with the co-ordination of STEVTA with the fund sourcing from NEVTA. The committee's mandate would include finalising training curriculum and acquiring trainers & affiliation with any international institute. Mahmood also suggested that this committee might visit Bangladesh to study the ongoing operations of the workers training institutes.
Taking consent of the worried industrialists on the law and order issue, the secretary decided to convene another meeting of relevant authorities of Sindh province, particularly in Karachi. These would also include political elements in order to take some steps towards establishing industrial peace for the continuity of industrial activities.-PR
