Arrest of Hamid Saeed Kazmi: FIA intimates National Assembly Speaker

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formally intimated Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza of the arrest of former Minister for Religious Affairs, MNA Hamid Saeed Kazmi on corruption charges in Hajj arrangements.
Talking to Business Recorder, Director Public Relations, National Assembly Secretariat, Mehboob Ali Gurmani confirmed that the FIA on Wednesday intimated this in writing to the Speaker under rule 103 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
According to Rule 103, when a member is arrested on a criminal charge or for a criminal offence or is sentenced to imprisonment by a court of law or is detained under an executive order, the committing judge, magistrate or executive authority, as the case may be, shall immediately intimate such fact to the Speaker indicating the reasons for the arrest, detention or conviction, as the case may be, as also the place of detention or imprisonment of the member in appropriate form set out in the Fourth Schedule.
After arrest from the Supreme Court on rejection of bail before arrest, a senior civil judge Islamabad, Mohammad Aslam Gondal on Wednesday handed over the former Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Hamid Saeed Kazmi to FIA on five-day physical remand on Hajj corruption charges. "As Kazmi is member of the National Assembly it was mandatory under Rule 103 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 to formally inform the Speaker", Gurmani added.
