It is need of the hour to expand livestock industry as for there is a lot of potential in exporting Halal meat after meeting our requirement, said Livestock & Dairy Development, Punjab, Chief Executive General Muhammad Ali (Retd) on Thursday. He was addressing a symposium "titled livestock production: natural and global prospective" arranged by Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
Former Punjab Livestock Minister Mumtaz Ahmad Manhes, Livestock Additional Secretary Khalid Owais Ranjha, Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development (L&DD) Adviser Dr Ghulam Habib, Colonel Muhammad Arshad, Continuing Education and Extension, Veterinary and Animal Science University Director Dr Salah-ud-Din, Faculty of Veterinary Science Dean Dr Laeeq Akbar Lodhi spoke on the occasion while L&DD Board Chief Executive General Muhammad Ali (Retd) was the chief guest.
Muhammad Ali urged the livestock educationists to more focus on researches and to bring revolution in the field. He said Pakistan is atomic power but facing worst situation in economy. He said that the country in this situation, we have to focus on short-term and long run planning especially in the field of livestock as there is narrow export of meat in our country. He said that Pakistan got solid foundation with respect of all seasons and fertile land. He said it is need of the hour to expedite the extension work in the country to persuade the farmers to adopt modern researches.
Former Punjab Livestock Minister Mumtaz Ahmad Manhes urged the government to take tangible steps for livestock industry stressing the need to strengthen the sector to strengthen economy. The former minister said that demand for the Halal meat in increasing manifold across the globe. He said that Saudi Arabia is importing Halal meat from Australia, Yemen, and Somalia and in the days of Hajj, the demand of the meat in Saudi Arabia touches the sky, adding that the country can earn heavy money by exporting the meat only to Saudi Arabia.
