Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hassan while expressing strong indignation over release of Raymond Davis said his party would hold a protest rally in the city on Thursday (today) He was addressing an emergent news conference after release of Davis by district and session court judge on payment of Rs 100 million as Diyat (blood money) to the heirs of the assassinated youth.
He alleged that Federal and Punjab governments and secret agencies were hand in glove for the release of Raymond Davis as they had succumbed to the American pressure for release of its CIA agent. He urged the people to reject the government decision and participate in the protest rally because rulers under US pressure could not change fate of the nation. Only independent rulers free from the foreign clutches could protect the dignity and sovereignty of the country", he added. He said the Punjab government's failure in tracing the US Consulate vehicle coming for Raymond's assistance and taking in custody the four terrorists therein had created doubts in the minds of the general public especially the aggrieved families.
