PPMA delegation headed by its Chairman, M Haroon Qassim and Former Chairman Dr Kaiser Waheed along with Dr Khawar Mehid met Minister Health Sindh, Honourable Dr Sagheer Ahmed. The Sindh Health Ministry officials, Hashim Zaidi Secretary Health Sindh, Suresh Kumar, Special Secretary Health Sindh and other officials were also present in the meeting.
The PPMA delegation apprised Honourable Minister Health Sindh about the devolution of pharmaceutical industry and its impacts on the industry and public health at large. The PPMA delegation requested Sindh Health officials to critically look at this issue as this will lead to drastic consequences including a dark future.
PPMA delegation proposed that for effective drugs control mechanism, it is essential to form "Drug Regulatory Authority" which will have 3 functions, namely, pricing of medicines, registration of medicines and licensing of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Dr Sagheer Ahmed mentioned that the issues are all valid and assured the delegation that the concerns will be taken up in their next meetings and they will ensure that these are resolved for the larger interest of public health.-PR
