National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will send 70 members of Urban Search and Rescue Team to assist the quake-hit Japan. According to a statement issued here on Monday, NDMA would send 70 members of the team accompanied by a canine unit and field hospital to Japan, and awaiting instructions to be dispatched to the affected areas.
On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed expressed sorrow on the terrible loss of life and property in Japan due to the 8.9 magnitude earthquake. He stated that NDMA's relief units are standing by to be dispatched to the affected areas of the country.
In addition, a 30 bedded modern field hospital is also ready and both these can be flown on a short notice. He added that the team is equipped with the latest, state of the art gear to handle such emergency situations. Lieutenant General Nadeem expressed grief on the overwhelming loss and expressed hope that these could be mitigated by effective search and rescue efforts.-PR
