More than 85 teaching and non-teaching staff of five schools of Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) have not been paid monthly salaries for last nine months. The Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project, a housing scheme, was launched by federal government in collaboration with City District Government Karachi and Sindh government some seven years ago.
The affected people of Lyari Expressway Project were resettled there by the government, who had been living along the riverbed. There are more than five thousands housing units in the LERP. According to an official, federal government was running five schools including one secondary school in the LERP for the past seven years. At present, there are more than eight hundreds students enrolled in these schools.
Some nine ago, the federal government stopped funding and asked the CDGK and Sindh government to take over the schools. "We are approaching CDGK for release of funds to these schools so that we could be able to pay salaries to our teaching and non teaching staff," said an official of LERP, requested anonymity. The teaching staff has urged the chief minister Sindh and Governor Sindh to take necessary action for payment of their salaries.
