Remarkable 'paradigm shift'!

Published Updated

A magnificent revolution is sweeping across the Arab world against the despotic, autocratic, dictatorial, monarchist, self-serving and corrupt rulers who had brutally subjugated their people for decades. This is truly a historic moment in the history of Muslims, a revolt of the oppressed, the muted, the suppressed and the dispossessed against their self-styled mighty demigods.
What is even more remarkable is that this revolt of the respective civil society from Tunisia to Egypt, from Algeria to Libya and onwards to Bahrain, in essence and spirit, is pro-democracy, pro-rule of the law, pro-human and individual rights is spearheaded by the liberal who have an enlightened vision of moderation, equality of justice, adherence to civil liberties, shunning religious bigotry, extremism and role of clergy in the matter of state, governance, constitution and jurisprudence. Even the leadership of Egypt's Ikhwan Al Muslimun, which was branded and then banned as radical religious outfit, is supporting and is a part of the revolution which encompasses and guided by dynamics of secular attitudes, tolerance of diversity in faith, mutual respect and acceptance of a pluralistic society, culture under a democratic dispensation.
It is sincerely hoped that we, the Pakistanis, would also become a part of this momentous paradigm shift in the attitudes and mindset of the hitherto politically suppressed, economically dispossessed and religiously exploited mortal of no consequence and join the ranks of pragmatic, tolerant and enlightened civil societies across the world, for this is the only way forward to peace, prosperity, growth, development and stability under truly undiluted democracy which is transparent, accountable, free from corruption, religious bigotry, extremism and a dispensation that is responsible for its actions to the people.
