A local court on Saturday indicted Federal Minister of Law, Babar Awan in a kidnapping and dacoity case, which was registered against him in New Town Police Station of Rawalpindi. The court of Civil Judge Rawalpindi Mahar Sarfaraz Hussain formally charged the minister in the dacoity and kidnapping case.
Babar Awan denied the charges after which the learned judge directed the prosecution to present the witnesses. The court recorded statement of one of the witnesses and directed the prosecution to present more witnesses at next hearing. The case against Awan was registered by a newspaper's owner at New Town Police Station in 1988. He accused Awan of robbing him of his cash after kidnapping.
He is not appearing before the court and has filed an application through his lawyer, seeking exemption from personal appearance in the court on the grounds of official engagements. The Federal Minister appeared before the court in person and denied the charges levelled against him in the kidnapping and dacoity case. Awan termed the case as politically motivated and denied the charges.
