Chairman, Pakistan Tanners' Association (PTA), Khurshid Alam strongly condemned hike in fuel prices in country as well as frequent gas suspension in Lahore (Punjab) despite all vigorous assurance made by the Prime Minister, Governor Punjab and other concerned government officials/ departments for the restoration of gas supply to the tanning units located in Lahore (Punjab) to make them able to run their factories smoothly for the execution of their committed export orders.
In a statement Khurshid Alam also stated that the 'Petrol Bomb' was defused two months earlier by the government in the wake of strong agitation of business community, general masses and some political parties in country, but ultimately they now decided to increase the fuel prices in country to a drastic level, which is completely detrimental to all the export oriented industries of the country specially to the leather industry of country, which is already at the verge of collapse.
Khurshid Alam also strongly criticised the government policy particularly to the interruption of gas supply to tanning units located in Lahore (Punjab), which is causing great hardships to the production of the industry, resultantly loosing precious foreign exchange in termination of export orders, which is already in declining trend up to 30 percent.
Khurshid appealed to President and Prime Minister and the chief minister Punjab to look into this very significant nature of problems of leather industry of country for the supreme interest to cater to the basic needs of uninterrupted gas supply and withdraw the recent increase in fuel prices in country with the motive to provide level playing field to the leather industry to continue play their pivotal role in strengthening the country's economy, which is already under heavy turmoil.-PR
