Defence Minister's continued absence from committee meeting: protest note moved to Senate Chairman

The Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production has moved a protest note to the Senate Chairman regarding continuous absence of the Minister for Defence, Ahmed Mukhtar, which is against the rules of business of the National Assembly.
The Standing Committee which met under Lieutenant General (Retd) Javed Ashraf, expressed utter displeasure on the behaviour of the minister for defence for not attending the standing committee meeting. In his ruling, he said that the matter would be first brought to the knowledge of chairman of the Senate. If he still did not attend the committee meeting, then it would be referred to the Senate committee on privileges.
The members of committee further recommended to the ministry of defence to start flights between Lahore and Peshawar on daily basis to cater the needs of the customers of Khyber Pakhtunkha. PIA was asked to review the schedule of the flights and match it with the requirements of the clients.
The committee took decision after undertaking on Tuesday a motion moved by the ANP Senator Muhammad Adeel at Upper House. He alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkha was neglected by the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) as job quota was not observed while advertising the vacant posts.
Anjum Amin, head of PIAC's operation urged that the job quota of KP had already been exceeded. "At present, PIA has employed 11.86 percent on KP domicile holders against the required quota of 11.5 percent of the total", he explained. Chairman of the committee directed the new management of PIAC to follow the earlier directions of the committee and give employment advertisement not only in national but regional newspapers so that every one could be able to apply for jobs in time.
