Protective duties slapped by Turkey: hearing of Pakistan's textile exporters' case on March 7th & 8th: Ikhtiar

The hearing of Pakistani textile exporters' case against protective duties levied by the Turkish authorities on Pakistani garments and fabrics will be held on 7th & 8th March in Turkey to ascertain the damage, if any, to local manufacturers, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Federal Advisor on Textile told Business Recorder.
He said to resolve the issue of customs duties enhancement on import of Pakistani fabric from 6.5 percent to 34.5 percent and garments from 9.5 percent to 52 percent, a delegation led by Tariq Iqbal Puri, CEO of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) including Dr Ikhtiar Baig met the Turkish Deputy Minister last week. Dr Baig also discussed the matter with Consul General of Pakistan Dr Yousuf Junaid and the President of Fabric Importers Association in Istanbul.
Dr Baig said our efforts are to get Pakistan excluded from the imposition of high custom duties on textiles keeping in view the extremely good relations between Turkey and Pakistan setting a precedent to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries to $2 billion annually as any such move will affect the trade volume between the two brotherly states.
