The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Monday sought assistance of deputy attorney general (DAG) in two identical petitions seeking the possession or custody of Raymond Davis' diplomatic record, if any, into court's custody by March 14. Chief justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry after hearing arguments of petitioner's counsel Rana Ilamudin advocate and Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey handed over the copies of the petitions to DAG Naveed Inayat Mali for reply.
Advocate Rana Ilamudin Ghazi urged that directions be issued to shift double-murder accused Raymond Davis to Lahore Fort and ask Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to hold inquiry in his case. He said since the jail is situated far away from the city, such distance could help the accused flee the jail.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey submitted that all certified copies of diplomatic record, if any, of Raymond Davis be submitted to the court immediately with a view to preventing issuance of the same in back dates by way of forgery. Jaffrey said in the larger interests of justice the court should issue a pre-emptive order to the government against possible tempering with of US citizen's record. He said documents recovered from Davis have proved that he was a trained shooter and such expertise is not necessary for a diplomat. According to him, not only could the US try to forcefully get him released, it could also kill him.
