The first meeting of Pak France Economic Council, to promote bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries will be held in a couple of months and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is expected to participate, said Danieal Jounnaeou, the Ambassador of Republic of France. He was addressing the leading textile exporters here at Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, here on Monday.
Addressing the meeting he said that Pakistan has vast potential in textiles and they have traditional trade and economic relations between the two countries. He said that Pakistan has 85% share in total textile imports of France. He said that performance of Pakistan in war on terror was being executed in the best manner and European Union countries were highly appreciative of efforts of Pakistan government. He expressed hope that European Union countries would not only compensate but also support Pakistan economically for the losses suffered in this war.
Jounnaeou said that France understands that Pakistan has suffered a lot in the war on terror and world community must help it to overcome its economic problems. Jounnaeou said that France is donating water treatment plant for the citizens of Faisalabad. Regarding textiles he said that they were ready to share and redress the problems of textile industry promptly because of current war on terror. About GSP plus status for Pakistan he said that it was not an easy task and all 24 member countries of European Union have divergent views. He said that poverty and unemployment were main causes of terrorism and extremism and international community should support textile sector, which was providing maximum jobs to unemployed youth in Pakistan.
