Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH)-the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal marking the birthday of Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) is being celebrated with traditional religious enthusiasm and solemnity across the country on Wednesday (today). The day will dawn with Qura'an Khwani at all the major mosques of the country after Fajr prayers while special prayers will be offered for the integrity, solidarity and progress of the country and well-being of Muslim Ummah.
To mark the auspicious day, various religious, social and cultural organisations have chalked out their programmes for the Milad and Seerat gatherings, while the speakers will highlight various aspects of the life and teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Important government and private buildings, mosques and streets across the country were decorated with lights, green buntings and banners welcoming the festive day.
Newspapers will bring out special issues, while the electronic media will air special programmes, highlighting the sanctity and significance of the day. The government has already declared a public holiday on Wednesday and all the government and semi-government offices, bazaars and shopping malls will remain closed on Wednesday.
Special processions will be taken out and Na'at and Qura'an Khwani Mehfils are being organised across the country to mark this auspicious day. Various educational institutions will hold special functions to celebrate the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW). Literary societies, social and cultural associations will hold declamation contests, quiz programmes and Mahafil-e-Milad to highlight various aspects of the life of the last Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Processions will also be taken out in towns and cities across the country that will march on various routes before merging into the main processions. Some processions will remain confined to their localities. The Law-enforcement agencies have adopted foolproof arrangements to maintain law and order. Policemen in uniform and plain clothes will accompany the processions being taken out to mark the day.
In Lahore, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) will also be celebrated with religious reverence and fervour. The entire city particularly walled area has been decorated with colourful buntings and models of Masjidul Haraam and Roza-e-Rasool (SWA). The central committee for Jashn-e-Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) will bring out main procession from railway station. Dozens of small processions to be taken out from various parts of the metropolis will also join the main procession at different places of the city.
People from all walks of life will participate in the inaugural ceremony of the procession near the railway station. Different social welfare organisations and philanthropists will distribute milk and soft drinks among the participants of the procession. The main procession will pass through Railway road, Brandreth road, Chowk Dalgaran, Gawalmandi, Mayo Hospital Chowk, Anarkali, Lohari Gate and Bhatti Gate. It will terminate near the Mazar of Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh.
