Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that all resources are being utilised for rapid development of the province and provision of basic amenities to the masses. He said that besides good governance, merit and promotion of transparency, strict financial discipline is also being ensured and non-developmental expenditures are being curtailed and maximum funds are being utilised on the welfare of the masses.
He said this while presiding over a meeting here on Sunday to review the pace of implementation of education, health, water supply, infrastructure and other development projects. Elected representatives and senior officers concerned were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that corruption is the biggest hurdle in the development of the country and all segments of the society will have to play an effective role for rooting out this menace so that maximum resources can be spent on the progress and development of the country. He said that nature has blessed Pakistan with abundant resources and if sincere efforts been made for their development during the last 63 years and reliance on foreign aid been avoided, Pakistan would have achieved a respectable status in the comity of nations.
He said that there is need for checking loot and plunder of funds and generating indigenous resources for ridding the country of foreign loans and achieving self-sufficiency. He said that economic freedom is essential for genuine independence and luxurious lifestyle will have to be changed and simplicity should be adopted. He said that Punjab government is utilising all its resources on betterment of the people and every penny of public money is being spent in a transparent manner.
He said that contrary to the corruption and nepotism of the past, the present government has ensured timely and transparent completion of funds and third-party audit system is being strictly implemented for all development projects. He said that uplift schemes are being implemented in far-flung and remote areas on priority basis so as to bring these areas at par with the developed ones.
He said that the revolutionary project of 'Daanish Schools', equipped with the latest educational facilities, has been initiated from southern Punjab, and imported mobile health units for providing modern health facilities have also started functioning in the flood-hit areas. He said that the project of low cost housing schemes is being executed expeditiously throughout the province and it would result in materialising the dream of the poor of having their own house. He said that a transparent system has also been adopted for 'Aashiyana housing scheme' like other projects and houses will be allotted through balloting while a quota has been reserved for widows, orphans and disabled in these schemes.
He directed that timely completion of development projects should be ensured for the benefit of the people. A detailed briefing was given in the meeting regarding the pace of implementation of various development projects.
