There was a sabotage attempt on two Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC)'s 10-inch diameter gas distribution main supply lines near Phuleli Canal, Hyderabad early Sunday morning, according to a press release issued by SSGC here. It said the casings fixed on gas pipelines for protection got badly damaged by the blast of a bomb, planted by unknown miscreants.
The incident took place at the downstream of the canal but the pipelines fortunately remained safe from any major damage. Concerned engineers and other staff of SSGC immediately rushed to the site and started repair work. They also managed to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the city of Hyderabad. Both the pipelines daily transmit about 34 million cubic feet natural gas to the Hyderabad.
Official spokesperson of SSGC, Zuhair Siddiqui told PPI that they are working hard to protect the pipelines and have held meetings with Sindh police and Balochistan Constabulary in this regard. To a question regarding future measures of security at the pipelines, he replied that they are considering installation of detection system. He added that they are carrying out research on the issue and if decide to install the system, will have to import machinery for from abroad.
