Nadeem Yousuf Zai has been appointed as new Managing Director of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after the resignation of Aijaz Haroon, Aaj News reported on Friday. According to the channel, Nadeem Yousuf Zai is presently working as Director General, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
He has been replaced by Aijaz Haroon. After Aijaz's resignation, the joint action committee of PIA employees announced to end their strike and start flight operation from midnight. Wasim Iqbal adds from Islamabad: The four-day long countrywide strike of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation employees forced Managing Director Captain Aijaz Haroon to step down on Friday.
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the resignation of PIA MD has been accepted immediately. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Minister for Defence Ahmed Mukhtar freshed his statement that the ministry of defence did not ink any agreement with Turkish Airline regarding extending extra air routes to them.
However, the defence secretary had informed the National Assembly's Standing Committee On Defence on Wednesday that record of documents on agreement was under consideration of the ministry of defence and very much alive. Minister for Interior Rehman Malik termed the resignation of MD PIAC the result of successful negotiations between him and joint action committee of PIA employees union.
Source in the defence ministry said before resigning, Captain Haroon held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari. A spokesman of PIA employees union welcomed the decision saying that the show cause notices against president and general secretary of Palpa have been withdrawn. In addition to this, 8 pilots who were dismissed would be reinstated soon.
