PUASA demands immediate removal of Additional Registrar, Treasurer

Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) has demanded the immediate removal of University's Additional Registrar Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir and Treasurer Uzma Ikram alleging the officers had jeopardised the academic and financial activities on campus due to their alleged incompetence.
While addressing the press conference along with the office bearers of Academic Staff Association PUASA President Professor Dr Mahr Muhammad Saeed Akhtar on Thursday alleged that Vice Chancellor was following pick and choose policy in case of transfers of teachers, appointments, inquiry culture, grant of monetary benefits and selection boards etc.
By giving an example of the case of Additional Registrar Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir, which was finalised within short span of three months. About the alleged nepotism he said that perks and privileges awarded to a first cousin of the VC, Dr Mansoor Sarwar, were allegedly not extended to other eligible and entitled faculty members.
PUASA office bearers also said Khujista Rehan, a lecturer in law, was allegedly victimised, as she was not sanctioned study leave, while she had to proceed to Australia for LLM on her own expenses. They further said on the contrary in case of Shazia Qureshi, wife of VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, not only the leave was sanctioned but a huge amount of Rs 9.7 million was also transferred to her account.
PUASA expressing strong concerns over the Vice Chancellor's alleged policies of nepotism, favouritism and victimisation has strongly condemned the same. Dr Mahr Saeed Akhtar said that ASA tried to present these prevailing issues before the VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, however the same was vehemently denied by him. He also warned that many teachers could resort to commit self-immolation if the practice was not ended.
While PUASA office bearers strongly criticised the VC for not holding elections of different statutory bodies including Senate, Syndicate and the Academic Council, while further alleging the eligibility, selection and promotion cases in most of the varsity's departments had not been finalised even after the lapse of statutory period, while on the other hand, in case of favouritism, there were numerous precedents of early disposal of such cases.
They demanded the implementation of "one man, one post" formula saying it had been long standing demand of the varsity faculty members. They were of the view that instead of taking any pragmatic step, the varsity administration had been bestowing additional responsibilities on a few selected teachers. They further said such practice had not only infused a wave of deprivation among the eligible and deserving teachers but also created a lot of administrative problems.
