Published Updated

Model Chemistry exhibition was held at University of Peshawar (UoP) under the auspices of Institute of Chemical Sciences. A total of forty stalls from various colleges and institutions were on display. Around one hundred and fifty projects relating to the field of chemistry were on show.
Projects like feather magic, Cement plant, recycling of used papers, Coal Carbonisation Process, the concept of Global Warming, Solar energy Plants, Uses and hazards of minerals, Acid rain catch the eyes of the visitors. Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Professor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan formally inaugurated the one-day exhibition and visited the stalls, while Professor Dr Imdad and other faculty members also accompanied him.
Addressing the students at the inaugural ceremony VC said that, he is deeply impressed by the tremendous work done by the students. He said that our youth is the best in the world and can do wonders in the field of science and technology if guided properly and given due motivation.
Dr Azmat said that University of Peshawar Institute of chemical Sciences has been declared as the flagship department by the Higher education Commission, because a lot of research is being done over here and has state of the art equipment as well. He said that chemistry is an important field of science and we need to develop and nurture experts in it to strengthen the manufacturing sector of our country, which is rich in natural resources. Our minerals are the best in the world if proper extracting and synthesising techniques are adopted.
This can generate billions of dollars in the form of exports for our country, which would bring economic prosperity and employment, and lots of problems would be solved resultantly. A panel of judges from various institutions later declared the winning stalls among which University of Peshawar Applied Chemistry took first position, College of Home economics and Fuel Chemistry jointly shared second position, Army Public School stood 3rd, Collegate school stood 4th and Organic Chemistry University of Peshawar was declared as fifth. It is worth mentioning here that the Chemistry Model exhibition has been organised, as part of United Nations announcement of declaring year 2011, as the year of Chemistry.
