The Jamaat-i-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan has appealed to the nation to observe countrywide protest on Friday, February 11, against the killing of three innocent citizens at the hand of US citizen Raymond Davis and the US demand for the unconditional release of the culprit.
He said that Raymond Davis was the killer of three Pakistanis, a case against him had already been registered and the matter was before a court. But the US, most obstinately and shamelessly, was pressurising Islamabad to release the killer over and above the judicial process on the pretext of diplomatic immunity.
This was despite the fact that Raymond Davis was not a diplomat and Washington had been unable to establish his diplomatic status. The JI chief said that the US demand was not only an insult to the country's judiciary but also an attack on its sovereignty.
He said unfortunately, the government had failed to adopt a bold and firm stance on the matter and the federal and the Punjab governments had placed the entire burden on the court.
He expressed the apprehension that the rulers would yield to the US pressure and find out a way for Raymond's release. Syed Munawar Hasan said, this was a test case both for the rulers and the nation as it would determine whether Pakistan is an independent country or a US slave.
He said if the US was not checked at this stage, the US spies and Black Water agents would have an open license to shed the blood of the Pakistanis. He appealed to the nation to join the protest in a big way and stage rallies and meetings. He also demanded of the rulers to provide justice to the aggrieved families disregarding every pressure.
