Former skipper of Pakistan cricket team Salman Butt who was banned for 10-year by an anti-corruption tribunal of the ICC alongwith two other Pakistani players, said on his return to the country that he was disappointed with the ICC decision and would chalk out future strategy after going through the verdict of the ICC Tribunal.
Briefly talking to reporters upon his arrival from Doha here at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Butt said he did not agree with the verdict of the ICC tribunal. "I am disappointed with the ICC decision," he said, adding: The spot-fixing law is needed to be amended, as the judge himself said that no law has so far been made on spot fixing and this is needed to be amended." He was of the view that if this law is amended, his punishment may be slashed.
Moreover, former PCB top officials have slammed the PCB for abandoning the players when they needed its support and guidance the most.
Former PCB chairman Khalid Mehmood pointed out that it was wrong on part of the PCB to just distance itself from the players. "I don't want to discuss whether they are guilty or not but the fact is once there were allegations against them the board should have hired the best legal help," Mehmood said. Another former PCB chairman Tauqir Zia Butt said the players should not have been left rudderless and allowed to give statements that damaged their own cases.
