Ramday to retire on 19th as ad hoc judge of Supreme Court

Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, an ad hoc judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will retire on February 19 after completing one year period as ad hoc Judge of the apex court. According to record of the Supreme Court, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday served as judge of the Supreme Court for more than seven years.
He was appointed as judge of the SC in January 2002 and retired on January 12, last year and was re-appointed as ad hoc judge on February 18, 2010 for a period of one year. Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday was born on 13th January, 1945 at Lahore and received his early education from Central Model School, Lahore.
He joined Government College, Lahore from where he migrated to Gordon College, Rawalpindi, on account of his father's posting in the Federal Ministry of Law and graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi. He also remained Editor of the College Magazine "Gordonian" besides the President of the college Minerva Club. He was a best debater of the college.
He did LLB from the University of Punjab in the year 1968 and remained the Secretary of the Punjab University Law Society. He also remained the Editor of College Magazine "Al-Mizan" and won a large number of prizes and trophies in the International and All Pakistan Inter-Collegiate debates. He was declared as the best English debater in the year 1968 and won the "Krishnan Kishore Grover Goodwill Gold Medal Declamation Contest".
He was enrolled as an Advocate of the subordinate Courts in the year 1969 and as an Advocate of the High Court in the year 1971 and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in the year 1976.
He was appointed as an Assistant Advocate General of Punjab in April, 1976 and was promoted as Additional Advocate General in the year 1984 and as the Advocate General in March, 1987.
He was elevated to the bench of Lahore High Court in October, 1988 and to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in January, 2002.
It may be mentioned here that six judges of the Supreme Court four of them permanent and two ad hoc including Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman will retire in this year according to the record of the apex court.
Judges who will retire in different months of this year are: Justice Javed Iqbal on July 31, 2011, Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed on May 31, 2011, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali on December 11, 2011, Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui on October 13, 2011, Ad-hoc judge Justice Ghulam Rabbani on October 19, 2011 and ad hoc judge Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday on February 19, 2011.
Three of them Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday are belonging to Punjab, two of them Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed from Balochistan and Justice Ghulam Rabbani is from the province of Sindh.
