Statement against Asma Jehangir: 'SCBA meeting on 11th to review matter'
A meeting of the executive committee of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will be held on February 11 in Lahore to finalise arrangements for the judicial conference to be held in Lahore on February 12. President SCBA, Asma Jehangir will preside over the meeting.
Meanwhile, Syed Muhammad Akhtar Shah, a member of the executive committee told APP on telephone that there is no reality in the joint statement issued by some members of the committee led by K.A Wahab, opposing remarks of Asma Jehangir. It is a baseless statement and has not been signed by a number of members even by him and others including Taj Muhammad Mengal and Mohtarma Tabinda Islam, he said.
"Myself and Taj Muhammad Mengal were in Quetta and did not attend any meeting or signed any statement against President SCBA last week". Shah also said there is no division over the statement of Ms. Asma about the decision announced by the SC in PCO judges' contempt case as well as implementation of paragraph one and three of the order passed by the seven-member bench of the Supreme Court on November 3, 2007.
The executive committee member said that the issue of joint statement issued by K.A Wahab and others will be taken up in the forthcoming meeting to be held on February 11, with a request to take action against those who issued such a fake statement. He also the committee of to abstain members from issuing baseless statements to media.
