Khawaja Muhammad Jalaluddin Roomi Chairman of All Pakistan Bedsheets & Upholstery manufacturers Association (APBUMA) expressed concerns over decline in textile products exports to Egypt and Tunisia due to the ongoing turmoil and political unrest in these countries.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday Roomi said,"our exports of textile products had suspended to Tunisia and Egypt due to turmoil and Pakistan would have to bear a loss of $400 million due to current situation,"
He said that Pakistan textile exports to Turkey has already been affected due to their proposal to impose safeguard measures Pakistan fabrics and garments whereas a loss of another $400 million is expected if said protective duties are imposed. According to him, America has signed FTA agreement with Morocco and Egypt to export duty free textile products from these countries to USA and Pakistani fabrics qualifies for exporting duty free garments from Egypt and Morocco to USA. However, Dr Baig, advisor to prime minister on textile said it was a temporary effect and with the stabilisation of the political situation in Tunisia and Egypt the exports would resume.
