Police arrested Naveed Iqbal, the brother of Justice Javed Iqbal of Supreme Court, along with two other accused for murdering his parents for money. The CCPO Lahore, Aslam Tareen, while addressing a press conference, said Naveed Iqbal had executed his plan of murdering his parents with the active participation of two other persons - Abbas and Amin in the ghastly crime.
The CCPO claimed that the co-accused of Naveed had told the police entire details of their crime. He said the accused had confessed to the crime before the police. The police had taken a rickshaw in its custody which was used by the accused in the crime. The police also recovered the money and other articles used in the incident.
The CCPO said Naveed was a retired employee of IB and his father was supporting him financially. The family had distanced itself from him due to his highly objectionable activities. His father had bought a house for him in Shahdara (Lahore) and gave him 1.6 million for business. However, he could not maintain his business and later got loans from his friends. A highly indebted Naveed made a plan with the help of his friend Abbas and his relative Ameen to get money from his father. They came from Shahdara on that day and used pillows to strangulate them to death.
They had also badly injured the victims' wrists as shown by the post-mortem reports. The police said they also found bruises caused by fingernails on Naveed's body due to victims' resistance. The accused took away rupees one lakh and sixty three with them and later distributed the same among themselves. The police, however, claimed that they had used some "scientific methods" in investigations because it had become a high profile case due to Justice Javed Iqbal.
The father of Justice Javed Iqbal, Abdul Hameed, a retired DIG and mother Nasreen Hameed were found strangled to death at the residence of Justice Javed Iqbal in Cavelry Ground Lahore on January 11 evening. Police had also arrested servants and two girl students living with the family.
