ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Engr Muhammad Baligh ur Rahman on Thursday said that the government was focusing on the training of teachers to improve the quality of education.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of Global Education Monitoring Report as a chief guest the Minister emphasized the importance of availability of statistics on education to get awareness of the current state of affairs in the education sector.

Through these statistics the government can identify the improvements achieved so far in the education sector, he said adding that in the light of monitoring reports the priorities and frame strategies for future course of action can be set.

He said the report noted considerable improvements in Net Enrollment Rate in Primary Education and availability of physical facilities in government schools due to which a number of private school’s students have transferred to public sector schools.

The Minister attributed the improvements in the education indicators to the government’s prudent policies.

The minister stressed the politicians and bureaucrats to admit their children in the public sector schools to build the trust on the government educational institutions.

The report also emphasizes the importance of transparency and availability of information regarding education.

The report emphasizes that education is a shared responsibility, while governments have primary responsibility, all actors-school, teachers, parents, students, international organizations, private sector provider, civil society and the media have a role in improving education system.

Report had also given recommendations mentioning that the government should provide formal space for meaningful dialogue among multiple stake holders, especially those sitting outside government, including strengthening the role of legislatures education committees by introducing regular review processes and building the capacity of their members.
